]]> A roundtable on “The Political and Economic Developments in the Black Sea Region” was held on September 24, 2026, at Kadir Has University with a delegation made up from the South Korean Consulate General in İstanbul, as well as representatives from South Korean public trade agencies, financial institutions, and private sector corporations. The event provided a platform for diplomats, academics, and corporate experts to discuss the region’s evolving geopolitical and economic landscape.

Following the welcoming remarks and introductions by Prof. Mustafa Aydın, H.E. Taeyoung Park, Consul General of South Korea in İstanbul, delivered opening address. The academic and economic perspectives were subsequently explored through presentations by Prof. Mustafa Aydın from the Political Science and International Relations Department of Kadir Has University, who also serves as the President of the Global Academy, on “The Black Sea at a Geopolitical Crossroads: Emerging Political Dynamics and Regional Implications”, and by Mr Can Selçuki, Economist and General Manager of Istanbul Economy Research, on “The Black Sea Economy in Transition: Regional Economic Prospects and Ukraine’s Reconstruction”.

The event continued with a roundtable discussion and a Q&A session. This segment allowed participants from key institutions, including K-Sure, Samsung C&T, POSCO International, KOTRA, Korea Eximbank and academics attending the event to further debate economic and political forecasts, and operational insights regarding the Black Sea region’s future.

]]> Between September 7 and 18, the Geneva Graduate Institute held the two-week regional module of its Executive Program in Development Policies and Practices (DPP) for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Conflict and Fragility Management (CFM) cohorts at Kadir Has University in partnership with Global Academy.

The program brought together 11 professionals from NGO’s, the public and private sectors from 8 countries to examine development strategies, conflict management, and policy formulation. With the coordination of Alaa Tartir, Emrah Karaoğuz, and Doğuş Sönmez, faculty members from the Department of Political Science and International Relations of Kadir Has University, working alongside the Geneva Graduate Institute and Global Academy, contributed to the academic sessions.

The Istanbul module concluded with thesis presentations by the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) and Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) participants, who shared the research and operational knowledge developed throughout the sessions.

]]> Ozan Emin Halhallı studied law at the Turkish-German University (TAÜ) from 2013 to 2018. He studied law on scholarship at various universities in Germany. He completed his master’s degree with a thesis titled “Human Dignity as the Inviolable Core of Fundamental Rights: Examples from Communication-Related Fundamental Rights in Germany and Turkey,” written under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Philip Kunig. After working briefly as an attorney, he began his position as a research assistant at TAÜ in 2020 to conduct research in the field of “international law.” In 2025, he completed his doctoral studies at TAÜ with a dissertation titled “Sustainable Fisheries from the Perspective of International Law: The Relationship Between Freedom of Fishing and the Depletion of Fish Stocks,” written under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Candan. He has various publications and research works in the field of international maritime law.

He currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of International Relations at Karadeniz Technical University. His research focuses on the security dimensions of international law, maritime zones, maritime delimitation, maritime disputes, and the rights and obligations of states at sea. ]]> Dr Tacettin Çalık, Assistant Professor, completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Law, Ankara University; he obtained his master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department of Public Law at the Institute of Social Sciences, Selçuk University. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Pamukkale University. Çalık’s main areas of research are public international maritime law, public international law and human rights law; he has published academic papers and books on topics such as the obligations of the flag state, piracy and ship registration. He is also a specialist mediator and an accredited Med-Arb arbitrator at the TOBB Compliance and Dispute Resolution Centre.

During her LLM studies, she joined the University of Mannheim School of Law & Economics in Germany as an exchange student with an Erasmus+ Program scholarship, and during her Ph.D. studies she conducted research at Tulane University Law School in the United States as a visiting scholar with the scholarship of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK). Since 2018, she has been working as a research assistant at the Department of the Sea and Maritime Law, Ankara University Faculty of Law. She also serves as a researcher at the Sea and Maritime Law Research Association (LexMaris).

She participates in national and international academic projects addressing contemporary challenges in maritime law. Her research particularly examines cyber-worthiness of ships, abandonment and protection of seafarers, liability and compensation for damage arising from the carriage of hazardous and noxious substances by sea, and international legal frameworks governing ship recycling and sustainable maritime practices.
