Prof. Dr. Sinem Akgül Açıkmeşe has been a faculty member at Kadir Has University’s Department of International Relations since 2011. After graduating from the Department of International Relations at Ankara University’s Faculty of Political Sciences (1998), she earned her master’s degrees from Ankara University’s European Communities-International Relations program (2001) and, as a Jean Monnet scholar, from the London School of Economics in European Studies (2002). He earned his PhD from Ankara University’s European Union-International Relations program as a TÜBA fellow (2008). He was a visiting doctoral student at the London School of Economics (2005-2006), a visiting researcher at the University of California-San Diego (2005) and Stellenbosch University (2016), and a visiting lecturer at Harvard University (2017). Prof. Dr. Açıkmeşe is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Studies Association (ISA) (2018-2020), Secretary General of the UİK Association (since 2008), and field editor of the European Review of International Studies journal (since 2014). Prof. Açıkmeşe, who conducts research projects under the EU’s Erasmus+, Marie Curie, and Jean Monnet programs and has published articles in international and national scientific journals and books, has academic interests in security studies, European integration and security, and EU-Turkey relations. Prof. Açıkmeşe is currently leading the European Commission Jean Monnet Chair project on “Hybrid Threats in the European Union” within the International Relations Department at Kadir Has University.
