I am a Professor of International Relations and Jean Monnet Chair at Koç University, Istanbul. My primary research areas are international relation theory and European studies. My research has made theoretical and empirical contributions to IR literatures on Self/Other relations, liminality, European identity, European foreign policy, ontological security, conflict resolution, regionalism, EU-Turkey relations, Greek-Turkish conflicts, Turkish foreign policy, Turkish civil society and citizenship, existentialist IR theory, gender and diplomacy, and historical international relations. I teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses on European integration, European foreign policy, and international relations theory. I am the 2024 recipient of Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council’s Science Award. Previously I had received the Turkish Academy of Sciences’ Distinguished Young Scientist Award in 2009 and the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council’s Incentive Award in 2014.
