Erdem Denk

Prof. Dr.

Prof. Dr. Erdem Denk is a faculty member at Ankara University SBF International Relations Department. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in the same department, and his doctorate at Cardiff University Faculty of Law. He has eleven books, two book translations and articles published on topics such as the United Nations system, international organizations, European integration and human rights theory. He has been working on the history of states and their laws from the stone age to the present day.

APPLICATION FORM

In this course, the process that brought about the states, one of the most important social and political organization units established by people throughout history, will be discussed. A classical narrative or chronology will not be followed, and by looking at it from a different angle, it will be shown that the historical flow is actually “our story”. In this context, the human conditions, which have transformed in parallel with the developments in material life, from the control of fire to the invention of writing, will be discussed. In the incest taboo, the birth of the family, male-female relations, production from hunter-gatherer to agriculture, belief systems from shamanism to paganism, architecture and shelter from temporary shelters to residences, armament from stone tools to metallurgy, exchange-trade from hand to hand exchange to money. Transformations in many areas during the Paleolithic and Neolithic will be discussed. The starting point will be the development of various “security and production tools” that will meet the basic needs of people trying to survive. It will be tried to be shown with detailed and nuanced discussions that by whom and how these tools, which require acting with others, are used determine the quality of the orders to be established.
