Organized by Global Academy with the support of Heinrich B\u00f6ll Stiftung (HBS) T\u00fcrkiye Office, the conference \u2018Russia and T\u00fcrkiye in Global Perspective: The Limits of Convergence\u2019 conference was held on 1 November 2024 at Kadir Has University Galata Hall. The conference was organized to discuss the global impact of the relations between Russia and T\u00fcrkiye and the limits of these relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the event, which started with the opening speeches, researchers, academics, and journalists who are experts in their fields came together and contributed to the development of T\u00fcrkiye-Russia relations in different dimensions. The conference consisted of two panels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia, T\u00fcrkiye, and the West: Towards a New Regional Order, <\/em>the first panel discussed the role of relations between Russia, T\u00fcrkiye, and the West in shaping a new regional order. The panelists analyzed how the current geopolitical dynamics affect the balance between the two countries and its implications for relations with the West. In addition, the panel discussed the roles of T\u00fcrkiye and Russia in the region in the post-Cold War era in the context of relations with NATO and the EU. Participants discussed the impact of developments in strategic regions such as the Middle East, the Black Sea, and the Caucasus on the regional security order. At the end of the panel, ideas were shared on how the future regional order could be shaped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Precarious Interdependence: Sanctions, Energy and Human Mobility<\/em>, the second panel discussed the economic and energy interdependence, sanctions, and human mobility between Russia and T\u00fcrkiye. The panelists discussed the effects of energy interdependence on the dynamics of global energy markets and the repercussions of Western sanctions against Russia on the Turkish economy. T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s relations with Russia in the context of energy security, the effects of the European Union and the United States on these relations, and the strategies pursued by T\u00fcrkiye in this context were discussed. The role of migration flows and changes in labor markets in the relations between the two countries was also examined. At the end of the panel, a discussion was held on the expectations and possible risks for the future of economic and energy cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
